In the quiet town of Tazewell, Tennessee, a routine traffic stop on a May evening in 1991 spiraled into a tragic act of violence that ended the life of a respected law enforcement officer. Douglas Wayne Tripp, a 42-year-old white male and a veteran trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, was fatally shot just before midnight on May 18, 1991. The incident unfolded at the Tazewell Muffler Shop, where Trooper Tripp was in the process of issuing a speeding ticket.
