On a tragic day in Humboldt, Tennessee, the life of 16-year-old Ma’kylon Williams was cut short. On August 20, 2019, the young man from Trenton was fatally shot multiple times in the 2300 block of Maple Circle. First responders arrived at the scene to find him unresponsive.
The Humboldt Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, which was initiated by a 'shots fired' call. Their inquiries led to the apprehension of two male juveniles. One of the suspects faced a charge of second-degree murder, while the other was charged with filing a false report. The individual accused of being the shooter was identified as Demonze Dowell. Due to their status as juveniles, the names of the suspects were not initially made public.
Ma’Kylon, who was born on May 14, 2003, in Jackson, Tennessee, was remembered by his family and friends. In the wake of his death, his family established a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses, and a memorial service was held to honor his memory. The case proceeded through the legal system, with court hearings for the juvenile suspect charged in Ma’kylon's death.
