On the evening of September 17, 2019, 26-year-old Casey Warren Tinker was tragically killed in Memphis, Tennessee. A graduate of the University of Memphis with a degree in Communications, he was working at Flight restaurant in downtown Memphis. After his shift, as he was returning home, an attempted robbery ended his life.
The incident unfolded when two individuals in a stolen Jeep targeted Tinker.
In the 1100 block of Goodman, Demarcus Wooten and an accomplice allegedly exited their vehicle and attempted to rob Tinker. When Tinker resisted, Wooten reportedly shot him twice while he was still in his car. Despite his injuries, Tinker managed to drive away from the immediate scene. He was later found deceased in his vehicle in the 3800 block of Maid Marian Lane, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into Tinker's death led to the arrest of 21-year-old Demarcus Wooten. Wooten, identified as a known gang member, was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Tinker's death. According to police affidavits, a witness and an unnamed co-defendant provided investigators with details of the robbery attempt and shooting. At the time of the reports in late 2021, the case against Wooten for the murder of Casey Tinker was still pending in court. Wooten had also been convicted of first-degree murder in a separate and unrelated shooting that occurred in June 2019.
