In the fall of 2019, the life of 18-year-old Samuel Calvert was tragically cut short in what appeared to be a robbery gone wrong in East Nashville. On the evening of September 28th, in the 1400 block of Rosedale Avenue, Calvert had a brief interaction with two individuals before shots were fired. He was fatally wounded, leaving a community to mourn and police to piece together the events of that fatal encounter.
The investigation into the death of the male teenager quickly led to two juvenile suspects. East Precinct detectives identified 15-year-old Brian Thompson and 17-year-old Jeroy Green III as the individuals responsible for Calvert's death. Thompson was the first to be apprehended and was charged with criminal homicide. The motive for the shooting was determined to be an apparent robbery. The second suspect, Jeroy Green III, was sought by police following Thompson's arrest. An arrest order for criminal homicide was issued for Green, who was already known to law enforcement. He had a previous arrest for aggravated robbery in November of 2017 and was in the custody of the Department of Children's Services. At the time of the incident, Green was supposed to be wearing and keeping charged an electronic monitor, which had reportedly not been charged since September 15th, prompting DCS to seek a probation violation. Shortly after the public was notified, Juvenile Crime Task Force officers located and arrested Green at a residence on Straightway Avenue. He was subsequently charged with criminal homicide in Juvenile Court.
