On October 30, 2019, 22-year-old Rafael Grace, an African American male from Memphis, Tennessee, was fatally shot at the Peppertree Apartments located at 4299 Graceland in the Whitehaven neighborhood. According to witnesses, during a gathering where individuals were playing video games, 25-year-old Cortavious Johnson approached Rafael Grace from behind and, without warning, shot him in the back of the head. Grace was pronounced dead at the scene.
