In the early morning hours of December 12, 2019, tragedy struck in a southeast Memphis apartment complex, forever altering the course of a young man's life. Antonio Tucker, a 26-year-old male, was getting ready for his shift at FedEx inside his Waterview Apartment Homes residence on Arborvalley Lane. His routine was violently interrupted when a man broke through a sliding glass door, forcing his way into the home. In the hallway of his own apartment, Tucker was shot.
First responders arrived at the scene around 4 a.m. to find him unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to a suspect, Jonathan Y. Johnson. By February of the following year, an arrest warrant was issued, and Johnson was taken into custody in connection with Tucker's death. Further legal proceedings followed, and in December 2020, a grand jury indicted Johnson, who was 27 at the time, on multiple charges related to the incident.
The indictment against Jonathan Y. Johnson included charges of first-degree murder, especially aggravated burglary, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
