The circumstances of Holly's death unfolded on a Saturday afternoon when
authorities received a domestic disturbance call from her Vernon Ridge Road home. By the time deputies arrived, the situation had escalated to a grim conclusion. They found Holly deceased inside the residence, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The tragedy was compounded by the discovery of her two teenage sons, aged 13 and 14, who were also found with gunshot wounds. The boys were quickly airlifted to trauma centers for medical attention and were reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect in this harrowing incident was identified as Holly's husband, 48-year-old Christopher Maxwell. He was located in a milk barn adjacent to the family home and was taken into custody by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. During the investigation, Christopher Maxwell reportedly admitted to shooting his wife, claiming he believed she was cheating on him. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, as well as aggravated child abuse and neglect in connection with the injuries to his sons.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, Christopher Maxwell pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree premeditated murder and two counts of attempted first-degree premeditated murder. He was sentenced to an effective term of life in prison plus twenty years. Following his conviction, he filed a petition for post-conviction relief, alleging ineffective assistance of counsel and that his guilty pleas were not entered knowingly and voluntarily.
