In the early hours of March 28, 2020, a shooting incident unfolded in the Orange Mound neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, which tragically claimed the life of 26-year-old Kenton Willett. Willett was inside a vehicle with a 23-year-old woman and her two young children, aged one and three, when the violence erupted. The group had just pulled up to a residence on Tunstall Street when an assailant approached the passenger side of the car and opened fire.
The gunfire proved fatal for Kenton
Willett and left the female companion critically injured. Miraculously, the two small children in the car were not physically harmed during the attack. The gunman fled the scene, leaving a grim aftermath and a community in shock. The incident prompted an immediate investigation by the Memphis Police Department as they worked to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting.
Following the investigation, authorities identified Romarus Turner, then 28 years old, as the primary suspect in the case. Turner was subsequently arrested and faced a series of serious charges. In November 2020, a grand jury indicted Turner on charges of first-degree murder for the death of Kenton Willett. The indictment also included charges of attempted first-degree murder for the injuries sustained by the female victim, along with two counts of aggravated assault, employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony, reckless endangerment, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
