In the late spring of 2020, the life of a promising young man, JaQuan Reece, was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee. A 19-year-old African American male, Reece was known as a talented athlete and a recent enlistee in the U.S. Army Reserves. On the afternoon of May 30, 2020, he was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in a private vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Knoxville Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Reece's death. Authorities believe the shooting occurred in the East Knoxville area, specifically near Sunset Avenue and South Castle Street. According to reports, a suspect was seen getting out of a black or dark-colored mid-sized sedan, firing shots, and then fleeing the scene. Investigators identified a dark-colored sedan as a vehicle of interest and appealed to the public for any information regarding the car or the incident itself.
