In the late spring of 2020, the life of a promising young man, JaQuan Reece, was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee. A 19-year-old African American male, Reece was known as a talented athlete and a recent enlistee in the U.S. Army Reserves. On the afternoon of May 30, 2020, he was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in a private vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
