In the late summer of 2020, the community of Crossville, Tennessee, was shaken by the untimely death of a local man. Austin Shane Lewis, a 30-year-old White male, was found deceased in his home on Neverfail Road on September 3, 2020. Concern had grown for his well-being, leading to a welfare check that would uncover a grim scene. Responding deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office discovered the front door of the residence appeared to have been forced open.
Upon entering the
home, law enforcement found Mr. Lewis on the kitchen floor, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the upper left portion of his chest. A spent shotgun shell was discovered on a couch near the kitchen, but no weapon was found at the scene. The discovery immediately launched a homicide investigation, with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the 13th Judicial District Attorney General's Office joining the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office in the inquiry. His body was sent to the State of Tennessee's Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
Despite the ongoing investigation and efforts by law enforcement to follow leads and analyze forensic evidence, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Austin Shane Lewis. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and the investigation remains open. The community and his family, who remember him as a loving father, son, and brother, are still awaiting answers and justice for his death.
