In the early morning hours of a November day in 2019, a domestic altercation in the Rinnie area of Crossville, Tennessee, turned fatal, claiming the life of 39-year-old Travis Allon Sinard. The incident, which unfolded on Colby Circle, resulted in Sinard suffering a gunshot wound to the head and hand. First responders discovered him in the front yard of a residence.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene around 4:48 a.m. following a report of an individual ramming a vehicle.
Upon arrival, they also found Jude Rod Pennington, then 41, inside a pickup truck near Highway 127 North with gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and leg. Both Sinard and Pennington were airlifted to trauma centers for medical attention. Sinard succumbed to his injuries and passed away on November 18, 2019.
Following an investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Jude Rod Pennington was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Sinard's death. The case proceeded to trial, and in September 2024, a jury in Cumberland County Criminal Court found Pennington guilty of the lesser charge of second-degree murder.
Travis Allon Sinard was a father of four, with two sons and two daughters. He worked as a metal fabricator, welder, and auto-rebuild mechanic. His family, including his parents, brother, and sister, held a celebration of his life following his tragic death.
