Angel Unique Haynes, a 25-year-old Black transgender woman, was tragically shot to death on October 25, 2020, at a Motel 6 in Whitehaven, Memphis, Tennessee. She was found with gunshot wounds early in the morning and pronounced dead at the scene. Angel was a licensed cosmetologist and had traveled to Memphis for the night. Her death marked at least the 34th violent death of a transgender or gender non-conforming person in the U.S. that year.
