Jasmine Eason was a 32-year-old mother of eight and a budding entrepreneur with her own hair braiding business in her Memphis, Tennessee, community. Family members described the Black female as a loving and caring person who was trying to build a better life for her children. They also said she was in a tumultuous relationship and feared for her life.
In the early morning hours of December 9, 2023, police responded to a call on Rayner Street in South Memphis around 4:30 a.m.
Inside the home, they found Jasmine Eason with a critical gunshot wound and her 36-year-old boyfriend, Kordelro Harris, with a stab wound to his hand. Eason was rushed to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. Harris was treated for non-critical wounds. Three of Eason’s children were present in the house during the incident.
Initially, Harris told investigators that two masked men had kicked in his bedroom door, demanded money, shot Eason, and stabbed him before fleeing. However, the children who were home contradicted his account. When confronted with their statements, Harris changed his story. He admitted that he and Eason had been arguing, claiming she grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the hand. He said this angered him, and he retrieved a gun from a dresser and shot Eason as she was trying to run away. Family members told reporters that Eason was afraid of Harris and had been trying to leave him.
A search of the home uncovered a bloody 9mm handgun and an AR rifle, both of which had been reported stolen in previous years. Investigators also found marijuana and cocaine. Harris was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, theft, and drug and weapons offenses. Court records showed this was not his first domestic violence charge; in August 2021, a former pregnant girlfriend accused him of shooting at her car and threatening to kill her if she left him, though that case was ultimately dismissed.
In May 2026, a Shelby County jury convicted Kordelro Harris of voluntary manslaughter and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Three months later, in August 2026, Harris was sentenced to 20 years, 11 months, and 29 days in prison for killing Jasmine Eason.
