On a late Wednesday evening in Nashville, the life of 40-year-old David Lamont Jordan was tragically cut short in a violent encounter that began over a blocked driveway. On December 16, 2020, as Jordan was returning to his Pappus Court residence, he found his driveway obstructed by a black Toyota Camry or Corolla. After he honked, the driver moved the vehicle, allowing Jordan to park.
As Jordan and a female companion exited his car, the driver of the Toyota emerged and inquired about who
lived at the residence. While his passenger went inside, Jordan remained in the driveway. Moments later, the sound of gunshots shattered the night. Jordan managed to run into his home before collapsing, having sustained fatal injuries. He died at the scene. The initial description of the suspected gunman was a Black man in his mid-30s.
The investigation into the murder of David Lamont Jordan led authorities to identify a suspect. In August 2021, Walter Clyde Johnson, 31, was located and apprehended in Cookeville, Tennessee. Law enforcement officials reported that the investigation pointed to Johnson as the individual who shot Jordan during an altercation at the front door of the residence, where Johnson was allegedly attempting to force his way inside.
