On December 22, 2017, the life of Dominique Lewis, a 24-year-old Black woman from St. Louis, Missouri, was tragically cut short in a violent incident that shook the Fairground neighborhood. Dominique, who had aspirations of becoming an English teacher and was working to put herself through college, was spending time with close friends just days before Christmas.
The festive atmosphere turned into a nightmare in the early morning hours when armed intruders forced their way into a residence on the 4200 block of John Avenue in North St. Louis.
As the home invasion unfolded around 3:00 a.m., Dominique and her two friends, 25-year-old Reeba Moore and 24-year-old Chanice White, attempted to flee the danger. In a desperate bid for safety, the three women ran from the house and sought shelter inside a blue Buick LeSabre parked outside. However, the assailants followed them to the vehicle. Investigators determined that the attackers located the women huddled together in the backseat and opened fire with different caliber weapons, killing all three of them inside the car.
In the years following the triple homicide, the case has remained a source of profound grief and frustration for the victims' families. Despite the brutal nature of the crime and the presence of a surviving witness who escaped the house, law enforcement struggled to identify the perpetrators. Detectives reported that they were looking for two men believed to be responsible for the shooting, but substantial leads were scarce. The investigation faced challenges common to the area, including a lack of cooperation from potential witnesses, leaving detectives without enough evidence to secure charges.
