On a summer day in 2021, a dispute behind a residence on Pond Rail Road in Dickson County, Tennessee, ended in the tragic death of Cuornisha Kenya Northington, a 38-year-old African American woman from Nashville. On July 31st, Northington was fatally shot. The incident led to the arrest of 41-year-old Lamisha Haynes, who was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.
Authorities discovered a firearm at the scene of the incident.
Following her arrest, Haynes claimed to have no recollection of the shooting. In an interview conducted from jail, she stated that she only remembered being pulled over and then waking up in custody. Haynes attributed her memory loss to being under the influence of cocaine, crystal meth, and alcohol at the time of the event. Despite her claims of amnesia and denial of even being acquaintances with Northington, her bond was set at $500,000.
Cuornisha Northington was a mother to two teenagers. Her family, deeply affected by the loss, described her as a caring and outgoing individual who was always willing to help others. Her sister remembered her as her best friend and has publicly called for justice for her untimely death.
