In the late hours of a summer night in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of a promising 20-year-old male musician was tragically cut short. Malik Gibson, known in the local rap community as YNC Capo, was fatally shot on August 14, 2021, at a gas station in the Frayser neighborhood. The incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. after Gibson had pulled his white Infiniti up to a gas pump and entered the station's convenience store. When he returned to his vehicle, he was ambushed by a gunman.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured the brutal attack. The assailant, later identified as 17-year-old Marc Lynn Thomas, approached Gibson and shot him multiple times in the head, neck, chest, and left arm. Following the shooting, Thomas was seen taking the car keys from Gibson's pocket and fleeing the scene in the victim's vehicle.
