A beloved mother is shot multiple times while in her Brookhaven, MS home In the summer of 2015, a 43-year-old mother named Bridget Hall was tragically killed in her Brookhaven, Mississippi, home. A well-known and beloved member of her community, Hall was a phlebotomist and a talented singer who had even earned a singing scholarship to Jackson State University. She was known as a peacemaker and, ironically, was in the process of helping to organize a 'Stop the Violence' event for her community in the weeks leading up to her death.
On the night of July 6, 2015,
Bridget was at her home on Vivian Merritt Street with her two youngest children when she answered a knock at the door. She was shot multiple times at close range and died at the scene. Her oldest daughter was in the driveway at the time of the shooting. In the immediate aftermath, witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing the area. Despite the presence of her children and the shocking nature of the crime, no arrests have ever been made in her murder.
Investigators and Hall's family believe her death was not a random act of violence. Her murder is thought to be a retaliatory act connected to another fatal shooting that had occurred just one day prior. On July 5, 2015, a 25-year-old man named Kelcay Anthony Humphrey was killed. The man charged with Humphrey's murder was Claudis D. Montgomery, whose brother, Claude Montgomery, was Bridget Hall's boyfriend at the time. A grand jury later declined to indict Claudis D. Montgomery, and he was released from jail.
Bridget Hall's family firmly believes she was killed as a form of revenge related to the previous day's homicide. They suspect she was targeted to prevent her from potentially speaking about Humphrey's death. Her family continues to seek answers and justice for her murder, which remains an unsolved cold case. They have previously increased a CrimeStoppers reward in the hopes that someone with information will come forward. The case is still considered open by the Brookhaven Police Department.
