An evening in Jackson, Tennessee, turned tragic on November 8, 2021, ending the life of 18-year-old Yasmine Humphrey. A Black female, Humphrey was the victim of a fatal shooting that the Jackson Police Department believes was a targeted act of violence. The incident unfolded at approximately 5:50 p.m. when officers were called to the vicinity of Lambuth Boulevard and Westwood Avenue after reports of shots being fired.
Shortly after the initial call, another report directed officers to a
gunshot victim nearby at 417 Lambuth Boulevard. There, they discovered Yasmine Humphrey inside a vehicle that had been riddled with bullets. She was suffering from gunshot wounds and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation, authorities believe the suspect or suspects targeted Humphrey's vehicle while she was at the intersection of Lambuth Boulevard and Westwood Avenue. They opened fire into her car, leading to her death. The Jackson Police Department has stated that they do not believe this was a random act.
