In the winter of 2024, the life of 18-year-old Tyrese Jamall Hardin was tragically cut short on the streets of Jackson, Tennessee. On the evening of January 7th, officers responded to a report of gunfire at the intersection of Gillman and Campbell Street. There they found Hardin on the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly gained momentum as detectives recovered surveillance footage from the area. The video depicted a chilling sequence of events, showing Hardin walking down the street as several males began to follow him, first on foot and then in a gray Ford Fusion. The footage captured the fatal shots being fired from the driver's side of the vehicle as it moved toward Hardin.
From this crucial piece of evidence, investigators were able to identify 29-year-old Joshua Jackson-Davenport of Jackson as one of the individuals seen following Hardin and getting into the gray Ford Fusion. Later that same day, the course of justice began to unfold as officers located and pursued the suspect vehicle. After a chase, Jackson-Davenport fled from the car near a Walmart on Emporium Drive but was apprehended by police. Upon his arrest, officers discovered a 9mm handgun in his possession. Subsequent ballistic testing confirmed that the weapon was a match to some of the shell casings recovered from the scene of Hardin's murder.
The legal process moved forward, and on September 3, 2024, a Madison County Grand Jury indicted Jackson-Davenport on the charge of First-Degree Murder. In a later development, on March 17, 2025, Jackson-Davenport pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of Second-Degree Murder. He was sentenced to thirty years in the Tennessee Department of Correction for his role in the death of Tyrese Hardin.
