In the quiet landscape of Henderson County, Tennessee, the life of 20-year-old Felicity Nicole Inman, a young mother, was tragically cut short on November 19, 2021. What initially may have been portrayed as a self-inflicted tragedy was later revealed to be a calculated act of violence that would leave a community in shock and a family forever shattered.
On that cold November day, Felicity was found in her parked car at Dogwood Lake, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the back of
her head. In the vehicle with her was the infant daughter she shared with her boyfriend, Gabriel Seth Box. The initial claim made by Box was that Inman had taken her own life. However, the ensuing investigation, a collaborative effort by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, and the Decatur County Sheriff's Office, began to unravel a different and far more sinister narrative. Forensic evidence was crucial in dismantling the suicide claim. A forensic pathologist determined that the location of the wound was inconsistent with a self-inflicted injury. Furthermore, the absence of powder burns and soot indicated the shot was fired from a distance of at least two feet, a near impossibility given the length of Inman's arms.
The investigation painted a chilling picture of the events following the gunshot. Instead of seeking immediate help for the mother of his child, Gabriel Seth Box placed Felicity's body under the dashboard on the passenger side, covering her with blankets. For two agonizing hours, with a shot-out window in the chilly 41-degree weather and his infant daughter in the backseat, he drove through remote areas of Henderson and Decatur counties. It was only after he arrived at his home that his father placed a call to 911. The weapon used in the crime, a 9mm handgun, was later discovered to have been stolen by Box from his stepfather and has never been recovered.
The evidence against Gabriel Seth Box mounted, leading to his indictment by a Henderson County Grand Jury. He was charged with one count of Premeditated First-Degree Murder, one count of Theft of a Firearm, and two counts of Tampering with Evidence. After being located and apprehended in Gulf Shores, Alabama, by U.S. Marshals, Box was extradited to Tennessee to face justice. His trial, held in August 2024, lasted four days and concluded with a jury taking less than an hour to find him guilty on all counts. In October 2024, Gabriel Seth Box was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Felicity Nicole Inman, with an additional six years for the theft and evidence tampering charges. During the sentencing, Felicity's parents, Ricky and April Inman, gave emotional testimony about the profound loss of their only daughter, a young woman who had found her purpose in motherhood and whose life was senselessly stolen.
