In a North Memphis rooming house on January 17, 2022, a dispute over a set of car keys tragically ended the life of 64-year-old James Rodger Seals. The male victim was found unresponsive by police at the residence located at 948 Pearce Street, having been shot in the chest. Sadly, Mr. Seals succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly focused on his 24-year-old roommate, Drewshon Richardson.
Initially, Richardson claimed to have discovered Seals unresponsive. However, the narrative shifted when another tenant in the rooming house came forward with a chilling account. This witness informed investigators that they had overheard an argument between Richardson and Seals concerning car keys. Following the heated exchange, the witness reported hearing a single gunshot and then Richardson allegedly stating, 'He wouldn't give me the keys so I killed him!'.
Following this revelation, Drewshon Richardson was taken into custody by the Memphis police. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of James Seals. After his arrest, Richardson was booked into the Shelby County Jail.
