In the spring of 2022, the life of 25-year-old Demecko Ferguson, a Black male from La Vergne, Tennessee, was tragically cut short in a wave of violence that unfolded in Springfield. On the night of April 23rd, reports of gunfire in the area of 15th Avenue West and Bessie Street prompted a response from local law enforcement. The situation quickly escalated as another call came in regarding a person who had been grazed by a bullet on Memorial Boulevard.
Amidst the chaos of that Saturday
night, Demecko Ferguson was discovered as the second victim of the shootings. He was rushed to TriStar Northcrest Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into the shootings led authorities to an abandoned maroon Nissan Altima on 18th Avenue West, where they collected evidence. It was also discovered that at least three rounds had struck a nearby home, though thankfully, no one was inside at the time.
The investigation into Demecko Ferguson's death led to the identification and arrest of three suspects. Nineteen-year-old Kevaris Lark was taken into custody on April 24th. Two days later, on April 26th, 21-year-old Eric Mason White and another suspect, Ke'vontay Emari Deshawn White, both turned themselves in to the authorities. All three men were subsequently charged with criminal homicide and were held at the Robertson County Detention Facility. A judge set their bonds at $1 million each as the investigation into the violent night that claimed a young man's life continued.
