In what should have been the safety of her own home, 22-year-old Jaquinsia Armstrong's life was tragically cut short on the night of May 5, 2022, in a violent intrusion. The young woman from Memphis, Tennessee, found herself in a fight for her life against a man she had previously sought legal protection from, her ex-boyfriend, Justin Hudson.
The events of that Thursday evening unfolded at Armstrong's residence on Masterson Cove in Southwest Memphis.
In a state of terror, Armstrong made a frantic 911 call, reporting that Hudson was breaking into her house. Despite her pleas for immediate help, police did not arrive in time. Hudson, who was 34 years old, forced his way inside and fatally shot both Jaquinsia and her 64-year-old grandmother who was also present in the home. Following the brutal double murder, Hudson then turned the gun on himself, ending his own life in a tragic murder-suicide.
Prior to this fatal encounter, the relationship between Armstrong and Hudson had been fraught with violence, prompting her to take legal action. A restraining order had been issued against Hudson in December 2021 after he physically assaulted her. Just a month before the deadly attack, in April 2022, Armstrong had again called the police, alleging that Hudson had forced her into his car and she had to jump from the moving vehicle to escape. Hudson's criminal history was extensive and included convictions for multiple burglaries and sexual assaults in 2015. Despite these clear warning signs and Armstrong's attempts to use the legal system for protection, the very danger she feared ultimately claimed her life.
