Demontae Darden Newsom, an 18-year-old male, was fatally shot on the night of June 11, 2022, during a pool party at the Cambridge at Hickory Hollow Apartments in Antioch, Tennessee. The chaotic scene erupted after a dispute at the large gathering, leading to an exchange of gunfire that left another man, 20-year-old Kalem Burford, dead and two others wounded.
The investigation into the double homicide led to a series of arrests in the following weeks.
Among those taken into custody were Learen Johnson and Robert Lee Evans Jr. Another individual arrested was Jaylen Buford, the twin brother of the other deceased victim, Kalem Burford. At least three other individuals were also arrested in connection with the shooting, bringing the total number of publicly reported arrests to six.
All of the named suspects were initially charged with reckless endangerment. The other injured individual was a 21-year-old who, at the time of the shooting, was out on bond awaiting trial for a 2017 murder.
