In a tragic turn of events, 15-year-old Brentley Delancey of Antioch, Tennessee, lost his life in what has been described as an apparent accidental shooting. The male youth was visiting a 16-year-old friend at an apartment on British Woods Drive on a Friday afternoon when the incident occurred.
While at the apartment, Delancey and his friend began handling and playing with a semi-automatic pistol.
The firearm, which belonged to an 18-year-old, discharged, and a single bullet struck Brentley in the neck. His 16-year-old friend immediately rendered first aid until paramedics arrived at the scene. Delancey was then rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on a Sunday night.
The Nashville Police Department's Youth Services Division is conducting an ongoing investigation into the shooting. A primary focus of the inquiry is to determine the circumstances that allowed the teenagers to gain access to the firearm. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not publicly named any suspects in connection with the fatal incident.
