In the summer of 2022, a young man's visit to his former hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, ended in tragedy. Artimis Jermaine Gray Moncrief Jr., a 19-year-old male, was fatally shot on July 11, 2022. He was reportedly in town from Dallas when the incident occurred.
On that Monday, police discovered Moncrief in the 2600 block of Parkview Drive in the Raleigh area. He was found unconscious and bleeding in the road, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.
According to his mother, Kantrell Carter, her son had expressed a sense of foreboding before his trip, telling her, 'Momma, if I go back to Memphis, they are going to kill me.' This chilling premonition has led his mother to believe that her son knew the person or people responsible for his death.
Investigators have been looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Surveillance footage from a local Pride Mart store on Raleigh-LaGrange captured images of Moncrief with another male shortly before he was killed. The Memphis Police Department's investigation into the homicide is ongoing, and as of now, the case remains unsolved with no suspects publicly identified or arrested. His family continues to seek justice and closure in the wake of their profound loss.
