On a late Wednesday night in Antioch, Tennessee, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace and tragically ended the life of 16-year-old Mario Hugo Lopez. The male teen was a passenger in a Nissan Versa with two other teenagers on September 28, 2022, when the vehicle was targeted in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Piccadilly Row.
The hail of bullets struck all three occupants of the car.
After the shooting, the 18-year-old driver fled the scene, stopping about a half-mile away on Treetop Drive to call for help. When police arrived, they found numerous shell casings back at the initial scene. Mario Hugo Lopez, who was in the back seat, was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. The 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old front-seat passenger were also wounded but were expected to recover.
The Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide and TITANS units are actively investigating the shooting. At this time, the motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers, offering the possibility of a cash reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
