In the Binghampton neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, on the evening of October 14, 2022, the life of Nepoleon Brooks, a 35-year-old African American man, was tragically cut short. At approximately 9:10 p.m. at the Chickasaw Place Apartments on Mimosa Avenue, Brooks was struck by a fatal gunshot to his lower back. Despite the immediate response of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident marked another grim statistic in the city's struggle with gun violence.
