Police Officer James M. McDade, age 50, of the Chester City Police Department in Pennsylvania, tragically died on February 19, 1885, from complications of a gunshot wound sustained during an attempted burglary intervention. Officer McDade and his partner were responding to suspicious sounds at the rear of a coal company near the intersection of Sixth Street and Madison Street. They discovered two individuals attempting to pry open the shutters of the building.
