Police Officer Matthew J. Curran, aged 28, was shot and killed on May 26, 1905, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Officer Curran, who had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for only five months, responded to a complaint from a woman who reported that her son had severely beaten her. When Officer Curran attempted to arrest the son at the rear of the home located at 1304 Frankford Avenue, the suspect pulled out a revolver and shot him.
