On November 4, 1906, Deputy Game Protector Charles Beecham, aged 25, was fatally shot near Scranton, Pennsylvania. Beecham, a dedicated officer of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, was attempting to arrest a man for hunting on a Sunday, which was illegal at the time.
