Detective Sergeant John T. Grant, age 39, of the Erie Police Department in Pennsylvania, tragically lost his life on November 22, 1912. He was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect who had previously stabbed another man with a pitchfork and robbed a liquor store. The suspect, aware that the officers were coming for him, waited at his kitchen table with a Springfield rifle. When Detective Sergeant Grant knocked on the door, the suspect shot through it, killing him instantly.
