Death by Force

On February 27, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19-year-old Michael Carpenter, an African American male, was fatally shot by Officer Marcus Giardino during a traffic stop. Carpenter was unarmed and was shot in the back as he attempted to flee the scene. This incident marked a significant moment in Philadelphia's history, as it was the second time an officer was convicted for killing a Black man.
