Emein M. Smith, also known as "Harp Gees," was a 23-year-old male of African American ethnicity who tragically lost his life on November 13, 2005, in Chester, Pennsylvania. Emein was the youngest of three children born to Beverly J. Wright and was known for his love of electronics, dancing, and his son, Emein Shaquille Smith. He was employed at the CoCoa Factory in Penns Grove, NJ, and was deeply loved by his family and friends.
On the night of his death, Emein was with two friends at a
club when an altercation occurred. During the incident, one of Emein's friends was targeted by the perpetrators, and in the chaos, Emein was shot while trying to get back into the vehicle. Although he was not the intended target, Emein was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chester Police Department identified four young men as suspects, but no charges have been filed due to a lack of cooperation from witnesses and Emein's friends.
The case remains unsolved, and a $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Emein's death was one of twelve unsolved murders in Chester, collectively referred to as the "Chester 12," which has prompted initiatives by local organizations and the police department to seek justice for the victims and their families.
Emein's family continues to mourn his loss and seek closure, with his mother, Beverly Wright, often sharing memories of her son and advocating for justice. The pain of losing Emein is felt deeply by all who knew him, and his memory lives on through the love and stories shared by those who miss him.
