On a summer day in 2005, the life of 18-year-old Bilal Lavender was tragically cut short in Chester, Pennsylvania. The young man was killed by gunfire on July 30, 2005.
Subsequent investigation by law enforcement led to the identification of a suspect. Durrell T. Becton, who was 18 years old at the time of the incident, was arrested in connection with the death of Lavender.
Becton, a resident of the 1100 block of Wallace Street, faced a host of serious charges, including criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder, and aggravated assault. Additionally, he was charged with firearms violations.
Following his arrest, Becton was arraigned and held without bail at the county prison, awaiting a preliminary hearing. The case against him centered on the events that led to the fatal shooting of Bilal Lavender.
