An African American male from Newark, Delaware, and a former resident of Chester, Bowman was known affectionately as 'Leem' or 'Kemi' to his friends and family. He was a graduate of James Grove High School in Wilmington, Delaware, and worked as a contractor for Bowman's Construction.
