Liposchok, a 52-year-old male, was found deceased in his home on New York Avenue on the morning of Tuesday, December 17, 2013. He had been fatally shot.
The grim discovery was made by a housekeeper who, after being unable to get an answer at the door, peered through a window and saw a man lying in a pool of blood on the living
room floor. She immediately alerted a neighbor, who then contacted the police. When officers entered the home, they found Mickey Liposchok's body in the living room.
In a bedroom, they discovered the body of Mickey’s father, 78-year-old Richard Liposchok, with a rifle nearby. Both men had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Investigators from the Allegheny County Police quickly ruled out the involvement of a third party, concluding that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. It is believed that Richard Liposchok shot his son before taking his own life.

Those who knew the elder Liposchok, a retired steelworker and a longtime volunteer firefighter known affectionately as 'Lippy,' said he had been struggling with his own failing health and was deeply worried about who would care for Mickey after he was gone. Friends noted that Richard had become withdrawn and had lost a significant amount of weight in the year following his wife's death.
The community was stunned by the news, with many viewing the tragic event as an act of desperation born from love and concern. The Port Vue police chief, who was a family friend, mentioned that Richard had been depressed since his wife’s death. The investigation into their deaths did not lead to any arrests, as the sole suspect was Richard Liposchok, who was also deceased.
