In the summer of 2014, on July 31st, a 25-year-old Black male named Terrance Bird Cox, known to his loved ones as 'Bird,' was fatally shot in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred in the Nicetown neighborhood, down the street from his home, near a Chinese takeout restaurant. Police at the time described the killing as an 'execution-style' ambush.
Two other individuals were also injured in the shooting.
Terrance, who had no police record, was remembered by his father, Keith Lyons, as a 'good kid' who never caused any problems. In the wake of his death, an outpouring of grief was seen from his family and friends. A vigil was held where mourners placed teddy bears and candles near the scene of the crime. His father addressed a crowd of a thousand people, expressing the family's pain and the pervasive threat of violence in the community.
Despite extensive efforts by the Philadelphia Police Department, the case of Terrance Bird Cox's murder remains unsolved. As of early 2026, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his death. Investigators have continued to urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in bringing a resolution to this tragic case.
