In the Pine Brook section of Scranton on a September evening, a dispute between neighbors escalated into a tragic and fatal encounter. The conflict, which reportedly began with a racial slur, ended with the death of 54-year-old Anthony Collins. A male, identified as Thomas Campion, 65, retrieved a gun from his home after the two men exchanged words.
Campion then shot Collins multiple times in the street, inflicting fatal wounds. According to the coroner, Collins's death was ruled a homicide resulting from the multiple gunshot wounds he sustained. Friends and neighbors in the community were left shaken and stunned by the sudden violence that had erupted in their neighborhood.
Following the shooting of Collins, as police were responding to the scene, the situation remained active. The gunman, Thomas Campion, then took his own life on a porch as some officers witnessed the event.
