Tyjerell T. Curry, a 20-year-old African American male from Harrisburg, PA, tragically died on March 10, 2016. He was shot in the 2400 block of Mercer Street in Harrisburg and later succumbed to his injuries at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Curry was in a parked car with friends when he was hit by gunfire, although police believe he was not the intended target.
The investigation into Curry's death spanned several years, with Harrisburg police never giving up on the case. In September 2023, two men, Khalid Carter and Leroy Gonzalez , were arrested and charged with homicide and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Curry's death. Eyewitness accounts and anonymous tips played a crucial role in supporting the charges. Carter was already in federal prison on unrelated drug offenses, while Gonzalez was arrested and held without bail.
The arrests brought some closure to Curry's family, who had been waiting for justice for seven years. Shawanna Plummer, Curry's mother, expressed her relief but also acknowledged that nothing could bring her son back. The preliminary hearings for Carter and Gonzalez were scheduled for October 5, 2023.
