In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 18, 2017, the sound of gunshots shattered the pre-dawn stillness in a Philadelphia neighborhood. At approximately 1:09 a.m., Philadelphia Police officers on patrol in the area of 4100 Leidy Avenue were drawn to the sound. Their investigation led them to a grim discovery. Near a vehicle, they found a man lying on the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as Ricardo Grant, a 38-year-old Black male who
resided on West Wingohocking Street in the city. Emergency responders rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, the injuries proved to be too severe, and Ricardo Grant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
