In the spring of 2017, the community of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was shaken by the violent death of 24-year-old Tevin Delante Sitton. On the evening of April 3, 2017, Sitton was a passenger in a white Chevy Malibu when he was fatally shot. The shooting occurred in the Dale Borough area of Johnstown. An autopsy would later confirm that Sitton died from three gunshot wounds to the head.
At the time of his death, Sitton was a husband and a father.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of a suspect, Jalen Demere Gibson. Multiple eyewitnesses who were in the vehicle with Sitton identified Gibson as the shooter. Surveillance footage from the area also corroborated the witness accounts, placing Gibson at the scene. The motive for the shooting was not made explicitly clear in the immediate aftermath.
Jalen Demere Gibson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Tevin Sitton's death. During the trial, the prosecution presented the testimony of the four other occupants of the car, all of whom identified Gibson as the man who shot Sitton. The defense attorney argued a case of misidentification. Ultimately, the jury found Jalen Demere Gibson guilty of first-degree murder. His conviction was later upheld upon appeal.
