In the early morning hours of September 23, 2017, the life of 51-year-old Steve Andrew Bricker was tragically cut short in his Fairchance, Pennsylvania, home. The man was fatally shot once in the chest with a. 22-caliber pistol as he lay sleeping in his bed. The person responsible for his death was his wife, 49-year-old Suzann Marie Bricker.
Following the shooting, the situation took another alarming turn as Suzann Bricker then turned the gun on herself, inflicting a minor gunshot wound to her own chest. Despite her injury, she was able to drive herself to Uniontown Hospital. From there, she was transferred to the trauma center at Allegheny General Hospital. Law enforcement was soon involved, and an arrest warrant was issued for her in connection with her husband's death.
The legal proceedings that followed painted a grim picture of the events that transpired. Suzann Bricker was charged with criminal homicide for the death of her husband. In a turn of events, she pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in March of 2018. During the sentencing, it was revealed that a medical evaluation indicated she had been dealing with delusional disorders, as well as issues with depression and anxiety. However, these conditions were not deemed sufficient to support an insanity plea. Expressing remorse for her actions, she conveyed a hope that her son would one day be able to forgive her. The court sentenced her to serve 18 to 40 years in prison for the killing of her husband.
