Robert William "Bob" Hubal, a 49-year-old Caucasian male from Thompson, Pennsylvania, tragically passed away on September 27, 2017. He was born on July 8, 1968, and was well-known in his community as a dedicated farmer who enjoyed dairy farming and raising beef cattle. Bob was a loving father and grandfather, and he took great pleasure in teaching his sons to hunt and spending time with his family.
Bob's death was ruled a homicide, and Cassandra Mercincavage, his 31-year-old live-in
girlfriend, was charged with criminal homicide. The couple had been together for about five years, but their relationship had recently soured. On the morning of September 26, 2017, Bob's son discovered his father's body in a bedroom at their home on Potter Hill Road. Bob had been shot three times—twice in the head and once in the torso—with a .22-caliber rifle.
Mercincavage was arrested on October 2, 2017, at a hotel in Moosic, Pennsylvania, after investigators traced her to the location. She initially denied any involvement in Bob's death but later admitted to shooting him during an emotional exchange with investigators. The suspected firearm used in the killing was recovered, along with Bob's previously missing Dodge pickup truck.
Mercincavage was arraigned on a felony count of criminal homicide and held without bond in the Susquehanna County jail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for October 16, 2017. The investigation revealed that Bob's death was an isolated incident, and there was no danger to the public.
Bob's funeral was held on October 9, 2017, at Hennessey's Funeral Home in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, and he was interred in Ararat Cemetery in Ararat Township. The community mourned the loss of a hardworking and beloved family man.
