A young man's life was cut short on a summer evening in Reading, Pennsylvania. Eighteen-year-old Carlos M. Herrera of Reading was in the 300 block of South 10th Street on July 24, 2018, when he became a victim of fatal gun violence. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the young man's death was a tragic loss for his family and friends.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an investigation was launched by the Reading police.
Their efforts led to the identification of two suspects who were subsequently charged in connection with the death of Carlos Herrera. The individuals taken into custody were Erickson Alcin-Abreu and Jousean Lubriel-Baez.
Following their arrests, both Alcin-Abreu and Lubriel-Baez faced the judicial process. The case against them proceeded through the Berks County court system, culminating in a jury trial. After hearing the evidence presented, the jury found both Erickson Alcin-Abreu and Jousean Lubriel-Baez guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Carlos Herrera. In addition to the murder convictions, they were also found guilty of conspiracy and aggravated assault. The verdict brought a measure of resolution to the legal proceedings surrounding the untimely death of the young man. Both men were subsequently sentenced for their roles in the crime.
