Zafir Mikal Covington, a 26-year-old Black male, was in Philadelphia on the evening of September 9, 2018, when his life was irrevocably altered. While on the 2200 block of South 69th Street, he was targeted in an attempted robbery. During the course of this crime, he was shot multiple times, sustaining grievous wounds to his chest, hip, and leg.
Rushed from the scene to a nearby hospital, Zafir Covington fought for his life for three weeks. Despite the efforts of medical staff, his injuries proved to be too severe. On September 30, 2018, a day that tragically coincided with his daughter's birthday, Zafir Mikal Covington succumbed to his wounds and passed away.
