In the quiet neighborhood of Penn Hills, just outside of Pittsburgh, the early morning hours of November 6, 2018, were shattered by the sound of gunfire. A Penn Hills police officer on patrol near Alcoma Drive heard the shots ring out around 1 a.m. and, along with other officers, responded to the scene. There, they discovered a silver-colored Ford Fusion parked on the street. Inside, in the driver's seat, was 21-year-old Calvin Lloyd Anderson Jr., an African American male.
He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Anderson did not reside on the street where he was found. Neighbors later reported to police that they had seen the vehicle parked in that same spot earlier in the evening but hadn't thought anything of it until they heard the gunshots approximately 45 minutes later. Despite hearing the fatal shots, no one reported seeing the gunman, leaving the police with a profound mystery. A sergeant in the area also heard three shots being fired.
In the days and months that followed, the investigation into Calvin Anderson's death continued. Allegheny County Police took the lead on the case, seeking any information that could lead to an arrest. They revealed that Anderson had been shot three times while sitting in his car. Despite their efforts and pleas to the public for assistance, including a feature on Crime Stoppers offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, the case remains unsolved. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting. The motive behind the killing of the young man from Penn Hills also remains unclear.
