On January 9, 2018, 25-year-old Diron Lamonn Hopwood, a Black male from Pittsburgh, was fatally shot in the city's Homewood North neighborhood. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Murtland and Upland streets, just blocks from Westinghouse High School. Neighbors reported hearing several gunshots, and upon arrival, police found Diron Hopwood lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
