Frank Lee Morris, age 35, was last seen on June 11, 1962, as part of a notorious escape attempt from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in San Francisco, California. Along with fellow inmates John and Clarence Anglin, Morris orchestrated a highly detailed plan to escape the maximum-security prison, which had been deemed inescapable. The trio used hand-crafted tools to widen the ventilation ducts in their cells and created lifelike dummy heads to deceive guards during bed checks.
On the night of June 11, Morris and the Anglins used a makeshift raft constructed from raincoats to attempt their escape through San Francisco Bay. By the next morning, their absence was discovered, leading to a massive search effort. Despite the recovery of some debris, including a paddle and parts of their raft, no trace of Morris or the Anglin brothers was ever found.
